africologneDIALOGFORUM @ ECAS 2023: RECOGNIZE, RESTITUTE AND REPAIR

Erstmalig findet das africologneDIALOGFORUM im Rahmen der European Conference on African Studies (ECAS) statt, die 2023 vom Global South Studies Center (GSSC) der Universität zu Köln ausgerichtet wird. Panels und Roundtables wie Making and unmaking the imperial museum oder Decolonizing Academia beleuchten die Notwendigkeit eines strukturellen und institutionellen Wandels im Kontext eines Prozesses der Dekolonialisierung.

africologne präsentiert ein Panel zu den Themen Anerkennung, Restitution und Reparation: Zu den Aufrufen, den Westen zu "provinzialisieren" und die Sozialwissenschaften zu dekolonisieren, gesellen sich nunmehr Forderungen nach globalen Reparationen und Restitutionen, die von den Ländern des Südens und von verbündeten Bewegungen in den Ländern des Nordens vorgebracht werden und sich auf die vergangenen und gegenwärtigen Folgen der asymmetrischen Beziehungen zwischen dem Westen und dem Rest der Welt beziehen. Das Panel befasst sich mit der Natur der Forderungen nach Rückgabe und Entschädigung, den Gründen für ihr derzeitiges Wiederaufleben, der Rezeption, die sie in den Ländern des Nordens finden, sowie den Voraussetzungen für die Umsetzung einer Agenda für Wiedergutmachung und Rückgabe, die den Ländern des Südens zu Gute kommt.

In addition to the calls to 'provincialize' the West and to decolonize the social sciences, there are now demands for global reparations and restitution made by the countries of the South and by allied movements in the countries of the North with respect to the past and present consequences of the asymmetrical relations between the West and the rest of the world. africologneDIALOGFORUM @ ECAS 2023 will examine the nature of the demands for reparations and restitution, the reasons for their current resurgence, the reception given to them in the countries of the North, as well as the conditions required for the implementation of a reparations and restitution agenda beneficial to the countries of the South. 

For the first time, the africologneDIALOGFORUM will take place within the frame of the ECAS by presenting a panel on the topics of recognition, restitution and reparation. africologneFESTIVAL of African (Performing) Arts presents various theatre productions, film, concerts and discussions from June 1st - 11th, 2023 at different venues in Cologne. www.africologne-festival.de
